# Amenity category

> A group of related amenities for a hotel or room type.

A category identifies a group of related amenities. It is returned at
`data[].category` in the
[amenity dictionary](/api/v2/reference/amenity-categories/list-the-amenity-dictionary)
and at `amenityCategories[].category` in hotel and room type responses.

Each group contains a `category` object and an `amenities` array. The array
holds [Amenity](/api/objects/amenity) definitions in the dictionary and selected
[Amenity values](/api/objects/amenity-value) on a hotel or room type.

## Scope

Hotels and room types have separate sets of categories:

| Scope | Describes | Category codes |
| - | - | - |
| `hotel` | Hotel facilities and services | `health`, `wellness`, `dining`, `services`, `accessibility`, `parking`, `sport`, `children` |
| `roomType` | Amenities of a particular room type | `bathroom`, `equipment`, `accessibility`, `view`, `kitchen` |

Use both `scope` and `code` to identify a category. For example,
`accessibility` exists in both scopes, so `code` alone is not unique.
Category codes have no resource prefix.

Room type categories keep `scope: "roomType"` when embedded in a hotel.
Hotel amenities are not inherited by room types.

`GET /api/v2/amenity-categories` returns both scopes by default. Use
`?scope=hotel` or `?scope=roomType` to fetch one. The dictionary includes all
categories in the selected scopes. Hotel and room type responses include only
groups with assigned amenities, or `amenityCategories: []` when none are assigned.

## Labels

Dictionary categories always include a localized `label`. On a hotel or room
type, the category contains only `scope` and `code` by default. Request
[`expand=amenityLabels`](/api/expand) to include its `label`, or look it up
in the dictionary using both fields.

Labels follow [`Accept-Language`](/api/localization). For example, a hotel
dictionary category with `Accept-Language: cs-CZ,en` is:

## Room type example

Room type categories follow the same label rules:
